Giselle is a ballet and opera about a peasant girl named Giselle who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. My painting shows the ballerina expressing the emotion that Giselle felt at that moment. This painting was done with palette knife in oil. The monochromatic theme allows the focus to be on the dancer rather than her surroundings. The layering of paint with the palette knife illustrates the texture of her beautiful costume.
My daughter studied ballet, and her dedication introduced our family to a world of beautiful music coupled with determined discipline. I have a great appreciation for the tremendous athleticism of dancers, especially those who are able to build a career on stage.
The original painting has been sold, but prints, note cards, and many products with the artwork can still be purchased.
